About Professional Termite Inspection Methods
Because termites are a signficant problem in Sydney, the Australian Standards has developed a standard (AS 3660) that pertains to the prevention, detection and treatment of termite infestation. As part of the Standard, a thorough inspection by an experienced termite inspector is a required element of a compliant termite treatment plan.
Visual Inspection for Termites
The most common type of inspection for termites (aka "white ants") is visual inspection.
However, you should keep in mind that termites are secretive insects, prone to attacking areas that are not visible or accessible.
This is particularly true for timber-framed structures such as brick veneer and weatherboard homes. Even if the roof cavity is accessible, many timbers can't be reached and readily inspected for termites.
Invasive Inspection
In some cases, the extent of termite damage is impossible to assess without removing sections of a building. Always ensure that this type of inspection is carried out by a qualified person in the building trades.
Wherever possible, we avoid conducting invasive inspections unless absolutely necessary. Where these are carried out, they are done by a qualified individual in such a way as to keep disturbance to an absolute minimum.
Thermal Imaging Termite Detection Equipment
To reduce the reliance on invasive inspection techniques, Pink Pest Services has recently introduced thermal imaging equipment. These are highly sensitive cameras that can detect differences in temperature. When used by competent and experienced termite specialists, this equipment can often pinpoint areas of termite activity behind would otherwise be invisible without removal of the wall. This allows you to minimise disruption and in most cases avoid invasive inspection altogether.
